Trojans maintain grasp of first place with win over Granite
DRUMMOND – The Granite Prospectors just couldn’t get it going fast enough Tuesday night, not scoring a basket until 6:55 of the second period.
By then the Trojans had well established a lead that would prove insurmountable on their way to a 72-52 victory.
But as far ahead as Drummond would get, the Prospectors refused to give up. Trailing by 10 at halftime, Granite worked the game as low as seven before the Trojans regained momentum and reestablished their lead.
The victory keeps the Trojans in first place at 8-1 and ahead of Darby who is a half-game back at 7-1. If they each win out until their meeting Feb. 12 in Drummond, that game will determine the district’s No. 1 seed. But the Tigers have three games left, all against the other top teams in District 13.
Granite has all but sealed itself into the No. 6 slot in the standings. But with explosive scorers like Hayden Mason and Andrew Tallon in the lineup, they could prove to the be the ultimate ‘trap game’ for a squad like Valley or Seeley Swan.
Drummond had four different players find their way into double figures in the win, with Caleb Parke leading the way at 15. Trey Phillips, Colt Parsons and Sam Bryant all finished with 12 each.
Mason led all scorers in the game with 19 for the Prospectors with Tallon adding 16.
