Trojans' time at Divisional Tournament ends with loss to Lone Peak

BUTTE – It wasn’t the ending they had hoped for, but the Drummond Trojans showed marked improvement during the ‘22-’23 season that will serve as building blocks for next year’s campaign.

Drummond fell to Lone Peak 71-57 Saturday morning in the Consolation Bracket of the Class C Western Division Tournament. The game was played at the historic Butte Civic Center.

The Trojans finish the year with an 18-6 record, while the Big Horns are 17-10, Lone Peak went on to win the Consolation Bracket Championship 53-51 over West Yellowstone.

Saturday’s game was reminiscent of many Trojan games this year, with the locals pacing their opponents in the first half to trail 29-25. But third period would again prove to be their nemesis as the Big Horns used a 20-11 run over those eight minutes to put the game out of reach. Drummond rallied in the fourth with 21 points and a frantic full-court press, but Lone Peak matched them in scoring for the victory.

“This was a really great team,” said an emotional Levi Parsons, DHS Head Coach, who coached his son his final game as a senior. “We did a lot of things this year we’ve never done before … we got a win at division. These kids never gave up, ever. The couple of games we lost they stayed in it every step of the way. They way I look it our season was a success.”

Colt Parsons and Ben Bradshaw played their final game in the blue and white, with the former scoring 18 points while the latter added six and nine rebounds.

Coach Parsons spoke on the privilege of getting to coach his son for all four years.

“He’s a great player, he’s done a lot of great things throughout his career, and to see him come out here in a loss … He had a great game going out. It’s been an honor for me.

“For people that don’t know what it’s like to coach you own kid … it’s a very unique feeling.”

Trojan point guard Brody Rasor was also in double figures with 16 points.
