Yakos twins finish Top 30 at State Cross Country Finals
GREAT FALLS – Freshmen Maddie and Gracie Yakos made a strong showing for Drummond High School at the cross country state finals Friday. The event was held at the Eagle Falls Golf Course in Great Falls.
In just their first year of competition, the Trojan runners put on a strong showing with a team made up of three freshmen and one sophomore.
Maddie Yakos ran to a 15th place finish in a field of 98 female competitors in a time of 22:12.07 minutes, making her one of only five freshman to crack the Top 15. Her twin sister Gracie placed 30th just two minutes back in a time of 24:14.97.
“Maddie ran the last two thirds with a side ache that she couldn't get rid of,” said DHS Head Coach Darcy Schindler. “Gracie was able to run after two weeks with a mild MCL sprain.
“Conditions were not good, but were the same for everyone.”
In the men’s competition, sophomore more Cordell Langton placed 63rd in a time of 22:26.52. There were 96 runners in the event.
Drummond freshman Jonathan Pfendler did not run in the event.
